PERSONAL STATEMENT FOR FUNDRAISING FOR HNMUN 2017

“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace shall be created”, UNESCO. This preamble illustrates my enthusiasm and interest in International Relations. Growing up in Langas slum in Eldoret, my family was directly affected by the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence. The experiences I underwent during that period have greatly contributed to my interest in Diplomacy and Peace and Conflict studies. I am currently a Junior student of International Relations majoring in both Diplomacy and Peace and conflict studies and a minor in Chinese language.

I currently record a standing GPA of 3.925 at USIU. I am interested in reading books, writing Academic articles, doing research and community service. I also appreciate the complexity of the international affairs and often take time to analyze global problems and offer Academic solutions.

I have been given several opportunities to serve in different leadership positions within the school. I have acted as the class rep in nearly all my classes; I have served in different school committees. I held the position of the Director of Social events in the AFROMUN bidding committee that aided USIU win the hosting rights of AFROMUN 2017. I then proceeded to be nominated for the position of Director of Staff by the board of trustees in AFROMUN 2017 Secretariat. I currently serve in the HNMUN 2017 committee that is grooming USIU students to participate in the Harvard conference in February, 2017. In addition, I am the current Vice president of Youth Alliance for leadership and Development in Africa (YALDA)-USIU chapter.

I am well vast with simulation exercises. I participated in the intervarsity simulation that was held in USIU-Africa as the delegate of Finland. In addition, I took part in AFROMUN 2016 as a delegate representing Cote d’ Ivore in UNEA committee. Through these experiences, I have sharpened my mastery of the rules of procedures, writing of Position papers, letter of credentials and Resolution papers. This has immensely helped me build my confidence before people as I have been exposed before many audiences.

I therefore call on any well-wisher to make it possible for me to represent the school in HNMUN 2017 through raising the required amount of money. The total amount is $2850 but a $100 out of $160 for registration and delegate fee has already been paid for by a willing donor, the remaining amount is $2750. I promise to give it my best and bring back glory to my Alma Mater. I believe we have the best minds to match those from Harvard, Oxford among other prestigious institutions in the world. Our performance will boost the visibility of the school to the outside world, therefore recording an increase in the admission of students. I target to make this tenet of our 2015/2020 strategic plan a true success through my participation.

I would like to sincerely anyone who took their time to read this piece of work.

Regards,

Ndegwa Daniel Njuguna
