In November 2018, I will be moving to Sri Lanka for 12 weeks to commit myself to a doing a Mental Health Placement.
This placement will help to develop my psychological understanding and utilise the skills I have learnt in my degree, whilst helping those who have various needs in disadvantaged areas. I will be working with people with mental health issues and learning difficulties. I will also have the opportunity to work with children and teach English.
This will be an amazing experience for me to help further my psychology studies, as well as helping less advantaged people in Sri Lanka. In 2004, Sri Lanka was hit with a detrimental tsunami, and has yet to recover fully. This means that they are at a signifcant disadvantage in terms of mental health and special needs care. My placement will help to reduce stigma attached to mental health, as well as bolster current resources.
The money that is raised here will help me pay for the fees of volunteering, as well as general living costs - so every donation helps! This trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and will support the lives of people in Sri Lanka. This experience will help me to make a difference in other people's lives.
Thank you!!!
