My Travel Story

The Dream - Since I was 14 years old, going on Erasmus has been my biggest academic dream. Now, it is finally happening: I have been accepted to study Archaeology in Zadar, Croatia, from February to July 2026.

Why Zadar? - For an archaeology student, Zadar is not just a destination; it is an open-air classroom. The city is built on Roman ruins and ancient history. Studying there will allow me to see the civilizations abroad that I usually only read about in textbooks—from the Greeks to the Romans—with my own eyes. This experience is the first major step toward my future career as an archaeologist.

The Challenge - I am naturally introverted, so moving alone to a country where I don't speak the language is a huge leap of faith. But I know this growth is necessary. I want to challenge myself, connect with students from across Europe, and overcome my fears. I also look forward to sharing Portuguese culture with my new classmates and bringing back new archaeological knowledge to share with my peers at home.

The Financial Reality -  I have done the math, and the numbers are daunting. My total Erasmus grant is €2,142, but the payment structure creates a significant gap:
  • The Cash Flow Problem: I only receive 70% of the grant (€1,499) before I go. The remaining 30% is held back until I return home.
  • The Monthly Deficit: This leaves me with just €300 per month to live on during my stay.
  • The Rent Gap: With student accommodation in Zadar costing between €450 and €650, my grant does not even cover my rent, let alone groceries, transport, or flights.

What I Am Fundraising For -  I am raising funds to bridge this monthly gap so I can afford a safe place to live without draining my family's limited resources. Here is the breakdown of my goal (€3,360):
  • Accommodation Support: €1,600 (To cover the rent gap for my stay)
  • Food & Daily Essentials: €1,000 (Basic groceries and living costs)
  • Flights: €600 (Including the trip home for Queima das Fitas)
  • Platform Fees: ~€160 (To cover the 5% site fee)

My goal is to focus on my studies and the historical sites, not on stressing about the next grocery bill.

Thank you for helping me dig up this dream! :)
