My Travel Story

by: Jinapher Hoffman Start Date: Jan 27, 2018 - End Date: Jan 26, 2019
The Why
Deep-rooted in my soul is a need to use my creative crafts and enthusiasm for travel to help others. In the last year, I felt the need to find more purpose in my own life by helping others find fulfillment within their own. This lead me to research volunteer opportunities in third-world countries.

The Service
Using Plan My Gap Year - I will be traveling to multiple developing countries and providing volunteer assistance to areas in need. Because my specialty lies in English and writing, I will likely be assisting in teaching children and women. However, I also am pursuing the company's Women Empowerment program in India, where I will be assisting women of all ages in computer education, English, and vocational training. Beyond these, I will also be generally assisting where needed.

The Duration
I am hoping to embark on PMGY's "Ultimate Round The World Encounter", allowing me to use my skills and help as many people as I can in Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia,  and Bali.

The Girl
I am currently 20 years-old and live in a small studio apartment in Downtown Mobile, Alabama. I make a decent income between one part-time, in-office job and working diligently for extra cash as a freelance writer and editor. Most of my money goes to bills, necessities, and taxes (because I'm partly self-employed). I have a small amount of savings I've put together and will continue to grow to help aid in this trip. Any donation, no matter how small or large, will be instrumental in helping me achieve this dream, but also in helping others around the globe.

The Money
Your money strictly pays for the necessary costs of transportation, food, and accommodation. Other expenses - such as weekend trips I may embark on - ARE NOT being funded with your money, as I do not feel that is right or fair. You strictly pay for my ability to help others, allowing you to help others, too.

The Dates
As of right now, my tentative month and year for leaving is July of 2019. Due to the high costs of this trip, it is likely I may need more time to save and fundraise. However, it is my desire to get this show on the road as soon as I possibly can.

The Bonus
I do run my own blog called The Jinapher, where I plan on recording the details of my volunteer experience. This will be a great way for you to get an inside look at how your money really does go a long way.
