Next July I will be going to Sri Lanka, as part of a team to participate in a 5 week volunteer program for psychology students. This program will give me the chance to gain valuable experience in the mental health sector, as well as giving me an insight to another culture, and gaining more knowledge that will help me in the future.
The placements are designed to give the maximun benefit to the communities where I will be working. Sri Lanka is still recovering from a 25-year civil war, aswell as the 2004 tsunami, this program is designed to help heal those who were affected. There are very few psychologist, and those who need help usually receive pharmacological treatment.
I will be working in a psychiatric facility aswell as teaching english, childrens development and also helping those with special needs.
I will be extremely greatfull for any help can get.
