My Travel Story

Hi everyone!
Thanks for being interested in supporting my voyage with Semester at Sea! I would absolutely love to go on this trip because there is no other study abroad experience like it. SAS gives me the chance to take courses I am passionate about, and get to go to several different countries and see these topics outside of the context of the United States. Those of you who know me best will know that I am a huge biology nerd. I particularly love the ocean and conservation. An amazing thing about SAS is that there are several courses in marine biology and ecology related areas! I do not even have the opportunity to take courses as interesting as those here at Simmons.
The Spring 2017 voyage I hope to go on will bring me to countries like China and South Africa, which have very different ways of interacting with and helping the environment than we do in the US. SAS gives me the unique opportunity to learn about and experiences these differences.
In addition to supporting my academic goals, Semester at Sea supports one of my most valued personal goals. SAS is a program centered around global education. I think it is extremely important in the modern world to have knowledge of other cultures and people, that will allow you to collaborate with people who are different than you. Many issues in today's society are international problems that require people to come together. I hope to be someone who can participate in these conversations.
Here are a couple of fun facts about SAS that have me so excited to start my semester!
1) The Spring 2017 voyage takes the ship through the Great Pacific Garbage Patch! How amazing and unique is that?
2) South Africa is #1 on my list of countries I want to visit before I die!
Thank you again for taking the time to read this and for your support in making this once in a lifetime experience a reality for me.
Much love,
Nina

  • Change Of Itinerary

Hi everyone! Since I started my study abroad funding campaign, the destinations for my trip have changed a little! I have updated the places Semester at Sea will take me on this page. Check it out!
A new place added is a country called Mauritius. It is an island in the Indian Ocean, off the east coast of Africa. Mauritius boasts beautiful scenery and beaches. The most amazing thing about this little country is that it is surrounded by the world's largest unbroken coral reef! I cannot wait to visit. :)
