My Travel Story

by: Nicole Wong Start Date: Jun 15, 2016 - End Date: Jun 14, 2017
Hello, all!

In the last month, I was able to free myself from a long-term abusive relationship. All I ever felt was trapped; now, all I want to feel is free. I've been lusting to travel to the far reaches of the globe ever since I can remember, but never saw it as a reality that could be reached because I never had near enough money.

Research brought be to TEFL (a program where I can get certified to teach English abroad), and immediately I jumped on this opportunity to support myself while enriching myself by trekking across the lush terrains, eating all the yummy and exotic foods, and connecting with the locals.

I'm excited to work with the Thai students because I feel that simply being in the company of their vibrant, young souls will be so conducive to my healing and recovery, not to mention, I will feel so fulfilled having known that I played a role in guiding them toward a brighter future.

I've visited Thailand very briefly 6 years ago with my family. I felt that my experience of it was so unfinished and shallow. I want a deeper imersion into this culture. I want it to be my day-to-day life for a while, rather than a tourist-y weekend jaunt. So, through this program, I will be living here for a full year.

I apply many Buddhism-inspired mantras in my daily life--my late Grandmother was Buddhist--and would like to really delve into the tenets and practices of this religion. I also am an avid yoga practitioner, and through it, I practice meditation.

While I have saved up enough to cover the fee of the program, I am short on funds for the flights, food, accomodation, and, naturally, fun excursions! I would be so grateful if you could help me achieve this dream of mine by donating.

Thank you, kind souls!
