My Travel Story

by: Vanessa Rusinko Start Date: May 10, 2018 - End Date: Sep 9, 2018
My name is Vanessa Rusinko, I'm 26 years of age, and I'm adopted. I was adopted before the day of my birth, my parents knew my birth mother for quite a bit when she was younger. And through her, they adopted me. I was born on the 20th of May, I've always had an interest in knowing who my family was since the age of 15 when my dad told me that I was adopted. As I grew older, I had the need to travel to Scotland UK, for a much-needed vacation. I held on to that dream, and I am still holding on to it today.

Right around early 2016, my older sister contacted me and explained to me who she was and who my father was. It was a heavy hit to the heart, I was so confused, I knew that I was adopted, but I didn't know that I had a large family. The sister who messaged me was from my Biological Dad's side of the family, as the days went by I found out that I had a sister, who was just a year younger than me and who exactly looked like me. Her name is Dallas. I added her on facebook and we became fast friends, we have similar interests and almost the same personality. A year goes by and we thought of a trip, I mentioned that I wanted to travel to Scotland, but since I now met my young half-sister I wanted her to join me on this 2-week journey to Edinburgh, Scotland. To me and her, it would be one massive bonding experience and a good way to find ourselves, since we've been through a lot in the past year. Due to bills and rent on both of our sides, we are unable to fund the trip for ourselves. I work from contract to contract as an artist. And my twin is currently looking for a job. So we are asking for some help to fund for this wonderful trip.

Why I chose this destination is because Scotland is a part of my Bio Dad's side, I want to know more about my clan and how my family came to be. Plus Scotland is such a beautiful place, the rolling hills, castles beyond, and many more.

What makes it meaningful to me is that I get to bond with my twin sister, I will be able to get to know her on a personal level, just by enjoying the sites and learning about our family history. As well as getting matching Clan Kilts as a souvenier.

A part of the donation will fund Dallas's trip to Vancouver, BC so that we can leave from there and when we get back, I can afford to pay for her trip back to Calgary, AB. While the rest of the proceeds will go to funding our plane tickets, hotel room and spare cash to spend. And as a thank you, I will post photos and videos of our journey through Tumblr. And we will add a massive Thank you video to everyone who donates to us.
