As many of you know, I hit a breaking point this year in my career as a NYC teacher.  However, what many of you also know is that I’m also not ready to give up on something I did have a strong passion for at one time.  Just because NYC can’t get it right, doesn’t mean other students cannot benefit from the skills, ideas, energy and joy that I bring to the classroom. That being said, before totally giving my first life’s passion up, and recalling back to how rewarding my time teaching in Thailand was, I’ve decided to give it one more shot and a quick recharge of the battery in a different location. It’s not Asia this time, but another ( much closer) country that needs help in the classroom and also values and appreciates those who are willing to come in and help them learn English in order to be successful in the world. It’s Jamaica. While I’m on this “break” between jobs, I thought to volunteer as a healthy way to try and get myself back on track as well as give something back to a country in need as well. I’m looking to try and do another two week volunteer program to recharge my batteries, so to speak in a country I happen to love.

As a volunteer in an educational program in Jamaica, I would have a hands on role in supporting local teachers in academics. The program is well suited to create voluteers with strong initiatives and enthusiasm for teaching. The academic portion of the program follows a strict government issued curriculum and volunteers work alongside a local teacher in order to provide extra support and attention to the students.  For the non academic portion, volunteers are also encouraged to teach home economics, and technology based projects.

I thank you in advance for reading this, and helping out in any way that you can.
