My Travel Story
So, why are we here? Well, early into my new school year, my year group were informed of an exciting opportunity – of the once in a life time variety. They really know how to grab a girl’s attention. Anyway, my interest suitably pricked, enquiries were made. Its only an unbelievable opportunity to represent my school on a trip to Nepal!! ‘Nuff said. I’m in. Where do I sign!?! “Not so simple I’m afraid young miss – one must be selected to partake”. One application later, stiff competition successfully faced down, and here we are…I have just been informed that I am one of only 18 very fortunate souls to have been selected to take part in what I am sure will be a life changing, truly life affirming adventure!
On this trip, I will for sure experience all the fun and excitement that goes hand in hand with a visit to such remote and rugged landscape. I will not deny that I am SUPER excited for all the friends I'll make along the way, and I am excited to see those breath-taking views from the mountain roads and passes, the hiking and camping, and all the good “me” type stuff that comes with a trip like this I am human after all. However, once this initial excitement dies down, I do also see that it is, much more importantly, an opportunity to restore perspective that I have no doubt lost in my very privileged gadget filled Western lifestyle. I am well aware that this “me” time comes a distant second to the real purpose of the trip – to experience an entirely new culture, to visit schools and villages, to share with the local school children my own life experiences and exchange stories. To be in a position to make a difference, however small, and hope that I don’t let anyone down. To contribute something positive. To make friends. To discover what kind of person I really am.
I am going to give this all I have, and I cannot wait for the life changing experiences this trip may have in store for me. I thank you in advance for your support, whether it be big or small. Having the support of everyone here means the world to me….and if I hadn’t already mentioned it, I’m very excited!
Thank you.”
