Hey guys!

In July I will be volunteering with SLV Global on a teaching and mental health placement in Sri Lanka! I will be working with residents from the local community both young and elderly across various locations such as schools, psychiatric units, residential drop-in centres and more! I believe that this experience will help me advance in my ideal career in clinical neuropsychology as I hope to gain a wider knowledge on not just mental health but the culture and language in Sri Lanka too! I aim to bring back as much as I can from my experience including the development of my communication and planning skills as well as memories and friends.

When working with children in local skills, I will be using a range of activities to help improve the children's English skills and help them to gain confidence when interacting with people from other cultures. This is an important skill which will boost their employability when applying for work and in job interviews.

I will also be planning sessions for the special needs projects and carrying them out in the following afternoon along with my group. We will be working with children and adults who may have physical disabilities, learning difficulties or behavioural problems. Our aim is to help to develop their cognitive functions and speech through creative play such as dance, music and crafts.

My mental health placement will be based in psychiatric hospitals and rehabilitation centres. Here I will run therapeutic activities with the patients with aims to add variety and fun to their day to day lives and hopefully improve quality! This will also be my first time working with real patients and so will give me some insight into the people and environment I will be working with in my future career goal.

Donations will be much appreciated as this will help me with my voluntary work and will fund the resources for the activities I will be doing with the residents day to day to ensure I deliver fun and engaging sessions! To show how thankful I am for the donations, I am offering small unique tokens of gratitude such as;

For a donation of £10, you shall receive a personal postcard from me in Sri Lanka to say a BIG thank you!
A donation of £20 shall receive a small, unique souvenir from Sri Lanka!
A donation of £30+ will receive all of the above as well as a personalised video message expressing how grateful I am and I will even try to get a cheeky clip of an Elephant in there! ;D

Thank you so much for reading guys!

Please share! :)
