My Travel Story

by: Katelyn Cross Start Date: Jan 24, 2018 - End Date: Jan 23, 2019
Hi my name is Katelyn, and I am 14 years old.

In February 2019, I am going to Nakuru in Kenya with African Adventures as a volunteer. I plan to help and support children in poverty by helping with building or repairing classrooms and teaching children subjects such as English or sport. I have to raise £1,800 in total, some of which I am trying to raise through this site but most of it will be through sponsorship and lots of fundraising.

The reason I want to go to Kenya is because I would like to help the children who are suffering over there because they live in very deprived areas, without access to an education. Some of the children only have 1 meal a day and 2 if they’re lucky. This will not only help the children but will also be a great life experience for me because I will experience other cultures and how others live. I think it will also help me appreciate how privileged I am in the UK.

I am going to fundraise as much money as I can. Some of this will be together with my school (Ely college) and some will be on my own. I have started to think of ideas like doing cake sales and tombola/raffles and I would love to hear your ideas of what I could do to fundraise.
Thank you very much for your support and thank you for reading this.

    Update 6 February 2018:

I had my first fundraising cake sale event on Saturday the 3 February 2018 with my friend and managed to raise £55.30! Not bad for a cold and rainy day. Thank you for everyone in Ely for your support.
