Mental health is such a controversial issue that is stigmatized greatly in Sri Lanka, with those suffering with mental health very little vital services to provide treatment and support. Because the access to these services are difficult, the work done by this project is so essential to provide medical attention, to spread mental health awareness and improve the physical, emotional and mental well-being of those in need.

Over the 5 weeks, I will be participating in a variety of projects in a psychiatric hospital and rehabilitation center, providing support to children and vulnerable adults who have special needs, and teach English to help communication and employment opportunities. This oppertunity will make a huge leap in my career and understanding in the issues that globally we face in mental health, giving me a much better insight, knowledge and understanding of treatment.

I am incredibly passionate about helping others, and am already working unpaid for 9 months with the NHS as an Assistant Psychologist, showing how keen I am to learn, to improve myself and help those in need.

The work done by SLV is incredible, making sure these children they get the help they need, and the reason why I chose this location was because those who are mentally ill, are not able to have a good standard of living. Any donations towards this cause would be hugely appreciated!! Thank you :)
