My Travel Story

I have been struggling with mental illness for the past 10 years of my life. In my first month in Amsterdam, I have learned and grown and experienced so many wonderful things. I cannot believe that I was almost not able to travel here- for financial reasons, for mental health reasons. I am so glad that I did. I have been so enthusiastic and fulfilled by learning and living here that I cannot imagine returning to America this year. More than anything, I want to stay in the Netherlands. I want to learn Dutch. I want to visit France, and Spain, and Ireland, and England, and Turkey, and Greece, and every place in between. I was to remind myself every day that life is worth living. I want to ride my bike down Dutch straats and ride the train down the European countryside. I've been renewed, after on campus sexual assault, after depression, after everything. I want and need a year to renew completely. I am finally living, and living well, and loving my feminine body for all it can and will do.
