My Travel Story

by: FMT User Start Date: Jul 25, 2017 - End Date: Dec 26, 2017
Hi there!

My name is Cathrine Jerge, and I’m currently studying for a BSc Psychology in London. This September I will be volunteering in Sri Lanka to promote mental health via the amazing organisation of SLV.Global, and I need your help

In Sri Lanka, mental health resources are scarce. Amongst a population of 21
million, there is one mental hospital.
One.

I have worked at a psychiatric facility in Norway, and I know first-hand
what this lack of resources means. Therefore, I will be joining SLV Global for
four weeks in Sri Lanka.

I will be working with those with special needs, teach English, and aid
recovery in both communities and in clinical settings. The project spans from
children to the retired, giving them invaluable skills, confidence and an
improved quality of life.
Local communities in Sri Lanka will benefit greatly, and I will do my best
to help everyone I meet :)

I am, however, a student, and having to pay for this wonderful opportunity all by myself can be tough. This includes accommodation and meals during the weekends, flights, entry visa, insurance, transport, and placement fees. This amounts to a bit over £2300, or NOK24 000.

If you agree that this is a cause worth fighting for, you can help! Any
contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated.
If you donate, I promise to send you a personalized postcard from Sri Lanka with pictures of places I've been and people I've met, telling you all about how unbelievably grateful I am for your support in helping me get there. For some of you, I'll even make a wonderful Sri Lankan meal upon my return – to the very best of my abilities.

Thank you so much for your help. Know that your donation contributes
to a project which will genuinely improve someone’s quality of life.

With much love,
Cathrine Jerge.
