I am an adventure advocate and enjoy traveling, meeting new people, trying new things and generally up for a challenge. I have been given the opportunity to develop the leadership and whole-school management skills of head teachers in the Masindi region of Western Uganda. As part of my professional development, I am hoping to fulfil an ambition to learn more about different education systems, cultures and to help develop local communities by training teachers. Teachers in Uganda face incredible challenges such as under-funded training, few resources in their classrooms and low attendance rates of students. Many schools in the country do not receive adequate funding and their teachers do not receive enough training, and so rely on any help they can receive from other sources.

This summer, I am planning on going to Uganda (Masindi) for one month to work closely with teachers, leading training workshops and coaching the teachers through improvements to their teaching practice.
I will be sharing my experience and expertise from the UK to help very needy communities and my return my aim is to implement my experience back into the local community, charities and churches.

In order to participate in this project I will need to raise a total sum of £2,500 to cover the flights, placement fee, vaccinations and kit costs. I plan to contribute £1,250 from my salary and I am hoping to raise the rest through sponsorship and fundraising events. I would be extremely grateful if you would consider sponsoring me for my project. I intend on writing a blog to keep you updated on my progress and experience.

Thank you in advance for your contribution.

    About Redearth

Redearth Education is a volunteer-led UK charity and Ugandan NGO, working to transform the life chances of the next generation through high-quality education.

We work with local government to provide quality training to teachers in public schools that are often remote, overcrowded and under-resourced.

Our training programmes help build the skills, motivation and confidence of rural teachers, enabling them to meet the needs of every child in their class. Without this level of support, many Ugandan teachers would not be able to access the resources and training they need to help children in their classrooms succeed.

Enabling children to remain in and progress through school is one of the most effective ways through which they can lift themselves and their future families out of poverty.
