Jeremy and Melany on a journey through Japan for research about Japanese subcultures to educate people with their ebook.

We are Jeremy and Melany, we've been fascinated by Japan for a long time. For it's land, tradition and culture, but also about the several subcultures this land has to offer and the way fashion is mixed into a way of living.

For our book we'd like to do research about these subcultures in Japan, film them, make pictures but also get background stories and information from the people living within these subcultures.

We've been active with the Japanese culture in the Netherlands. We did this by aiding Japanese events throughout the Netherlands, but also by organizing our own event.

For our book we'd like to study the following subcultures/scenes:

  • Cosplay
  • Lolita
  • Mori Kei
  • Kogal
  • Hosts/Maids
  • Decora
  • Gyaru/Gyaruo/Ganguro
  • Yankii
  • Rockabilly
  • Bosozoku
  • Visual Kei
  • Japanese Street Fashion
For our research we'd like to visit the following places to learn more about these subcultures, make photo's and video's but maybe even more important: get to speak people who are into these cultures to learn more about the background stories and why people devote themselfs to these cultures:
  • Akihabara
  • Shinjuku
  • Ginza
  • Shibuya
  • Harajuku

During our trip to Japan we want to visit big cities, but also visit the country side and help people in exchange for a sleeping place or a meal. We'd like to do this to learn more about the Japanese culture, give a helping hand and reduce our total costs for staying 1-3 months in Japan.

During our trip through Japan we also like to share our trip with you. We'll do this by writing a daily blog, vlogging during our trip through Japan and share interviews with people on our upcoming YouTube page.

We'd love to make this dream come true and every little help making it come true would be welcome! ^^ We also want to make this ebook free, or at least as cheap as possible so anyone can read it so we decided it will be sold for a price of $1-$2,50. The money raised by buying this book will be used for helping charity's in Japan (for example Disaster Relief).
