Dear Friend,
My name is Madison Romo, and I am currently a senior in high school. For many years, I have been interested in international relations and foreign languages. Throughout my high school years, I have pursued activities that allow me to pursue these interests and to learn more about global issues, such as Varsity Public Forum Debate, Model UN, or Houston Mayor’s Youth Council. Additionally, I have studied the French language for over seven years. Last year, I was chosen to participate in the National Security Language Initiative, a merit scholarship to study Russian language and modern culture in Moscow, Russia. This life-changing experience confirmed my goal to find a career in the foreign service. More importantly, it shaped my passion to study and explore countries that are stereotyped or nations that are often overlooked in daily political discourse. Because of these passions and experience, this opportunity to study abroad in Krakow, Poland is the opportunity of a lifetime. It will allow me to experience a different culture and to learn about Poland’s global role today. I hope to expand my understanding and knowledge of countries different than mine, as I believe that the ability to consider all actors and a broadened perspective is key to shaping a responsible and effective political leader.

Unfortunately, this is an opportunity that my family is unable to afford due to many financial obligations and taking care of an ill family member. Finally, my community of Houston has been hard hit this year, and many friends and family are unable to assist as they understandably have many burdens of their own. So, I ask for your support to help me pursue this once in a lifetime opportunity to reach my goals and gain a greater understanding of the world. I truly appreciate your consideration and support.

Sincerely,
Madison Romo

    Catching up with Krakow
Krakow is known in part for its Jewish quarter. The rich history of this area is one of the main reasons I hope to visit! I believe there is so much fascinating history and great stories to be found in this beautiful city. :)
