My Travel Story

Did you know that people living with mental illness and special needs are not well supported in Indoneisa? would you be kind enough to help support them?
The goverment offers very little funding to mental health and special needs services, not considering it a health priority. With 90% of those who may need to access mental health services unable to do so. Because of this, many incredible volunteer based organisations have been set up, offering mental, physical and social stimulation to people who otherwise would be relatively isolated from society.
I will be joining a student led volunteering organisation called SLV in Bali during the month of July (This organisation is set up in Sri Lanka too, and this is the first year it's running in Bali, which is why the videos are based in Sri Lanka).
During this period myself and other great volunteers will be working at a psychiatric ward and at special needs projects. This is something i feel very passionate about, as anyone who knows me will know these issues are very personal to me, and i've always wanted to use my degree to help others.
I will be hands on in providing education and social stimulation, using music, arts, crafts, movement and language. This is not a holiday, i will be working all week, every week, whilst living with a local family! I'll be living as closely to the culture as possible, assisting and learning from the supportive practices already in place.
All personal costs of this trip have been covered by myself (lots of bar work!) and my parents (thank you!).
What I would love to ask is this: could you please help with the costs of getting supplies to run the creative theraputic sessions? I'd be buying lots of art supplies, things to make sound and music, and some supplies for physical movement such as balls. I'll be buying a large amount of this when i arrive in Bali.
If you think you could donate some money to help towards providing some amazing support and stimulation to those living with mental illness and special needs in Bali, then thank you so much!

I'll be keeping facebook regularly updated with what projects and sessions we run, and you'll see the difference you've helped make to their days! If you'd like personal letters sent to you then I'd be so happy to do that too!

thank you! :)
