My Travel Story

There are my reasons why I would like to study abroad.  The main one is that I recently learned that this is a real opportunity for me, and up until this point I'd always thought that traveling out of the country (or out of the midwest, for that matter) was not a possibility for me.  If I'm able to accrute the funds, I will take a trip to Scotland where I will soak up another culture other than my native one for the first time in addition to earning credits toward my psychology degree.
I chose Scotland because, as a person who has had no experience in language or culture other than what I've grown up with, it is a more practical choice; I'm a firm believer in the saying, "walk before you run."  Scotland is also one of the place from which my family is descended.  The program itself played a key role because the length of about one month eases my worries about taking care of things at home while I'm away.
I believe that experiencing a culture different from your own helps promote personal growth along with compassion and understanding of others.  As a psychology major, I realize that cross-cultural differences and similarities are extremely important for understanding universal human constructs.
If I am able to make this trip, I plan to share my experiences abroad by encouraging others in my community to take the same leap I did.
I believe that traveling abroad is something that everyone should try at least once, and that it will be worth every moment!
