My Travel Story

Dear friends, family, and associates,

For those of you that do not know me, my name is David D'Angelo and I am an Urban Music producer and pianist. I am also a lover of the natural world. In just a few days I will embark on my journey to Wellington, New Zealand on a semester long exchange program with Massey University School of Music.

In conjunction with this adventure, I will be releasing my debut EP Born in Paradise at the end of this month. These two actions are bound together by one common goal: to bring awareness back to caring for our earth and to spread positivity through the common language of music. To be born in paradise is to believe that you were born in paradise. Paradise is more than a location; paradise is a mindset. Born in Paradise is a way of reminding others of all the beauty and goodness that this world has to offer. I urge you to think and act positively in spite of all the tragedies that we see happening to our planet and its inhabitants.

One way that I will be acting positively is by volunteering my time with ECO: Environment and conservation organizations of Aotearoa New Zealand. You can learn more about them here. http://www.eco.org.nz

Studying abroad, releasing an Ep, and volunteering are all endeavors that help me fulfill my professional and personal goals and will require a great deal of my time and/or money. So far my related costs up to this point are as follows:

Airfare: $1,200

University Fees (not including tuition): $600

Housing: $3,000

Additional Travel Expenses: $1,000

Meals on a $50 weekly budget: $1,000

EP Recording, Mixing, and Mastering: $2,350

Graphic Design: $350

Marketing: $1,000

I have already spent a total of $4,500 on items such as airfare, university fees, recording, mixing, mastering, and graphic design. However, I still have to spend roughly $6,000 in order to make this whole venture possible, let alone successful.

So how will this become possible? This is where you come in ! Taking full advantage of this opportunity means doing everything I can to help myself, yet accepting that I can't do it all without your help. My goal is to raise a target of $3,000, which is half of my projected remaining costs.

I want you to know that every bit of help counts, whether it is $1 or simply spreading the word ! That being said, the more you are able to give, the more I will give you back in return ! Here are the incentives I will be offering in exchange for your donation:

$5.00 or less - Air hug + social media shoutout !

$10.00 - Digital download of Born in Paradise EP + previous reward.

$20.00 - Digital download of Born in Paradise EP with Bonus tracks + previous rewards.

$25.00 - Born in Paradise T-Shirt + previous rewards.

$50.00 - Signed copy of Born in Paradise T-Shirt + previous rewards.

$100.00 - I will donate $25 to ECO NZ or volunteer 5 hrs of my time with ECO NZ (above what I will be doing on my own) + previous rewards. You decide what you'd prefer I do.

$200.00 - I will volunteer 10 hrs of my time with ECO NZ + previous rewards. (Yes, that really means 15 hrs or 10 hrs + $25 and all the other stuff too !)

$300.00 - Signed painting of the location of your choice in NZ (as long as it's feasible for travel) + previous rewards.

For those of you that donate before the end of July you will receive one unreleased song, regardless of your donation amount.

I am so grateful that you have given my story consideration. I am incredibly thankful to have this opportunity to travel to such a unique land and to learn even more about what paradise truly is. Whether you consciously acknowledge it or not, we all share a common love for the earth. Let's do our best to share this understanding with others. How can we learn to respect one another when we can't respect the one thing we all have in common? 10 years from now it won't matter if we have a stable economy but lethal air quality due to continuous deforestation and fossil fuel consumption. Music can help us focus on what's really important.

Thank you for your support !

Sincerely,

David D'Angelo
