My Travel Story

by: Dea Sihotang Start Date: Jan 26, 2018 - End Date: May 25, 2018
Hi Everyone!

I believe travel has power!
Power to become a better version of ourselves. Power to open our eyes that there are so many beautiful things out there, so many different things from home, so many unpredictable stories to make - but it's actually out there is not that scary.

I believe travel makes us mature and wiser.

I am coming from Asian background. I was raised as the youngest with the other 4 sisters and 1 brother (which all already get married and have family). Become Asian female (and not yet married in her 30+), most of the time I am getting tired of being judged by how woman should just stay at home, getting married, having kids and raise kids until we get old and died.

I am not saying that those concept is not right. It is actually beautiful to have our own little family, as I can see from my sisters and brothers - and how I love to play with my nieces and nephews. But for me personally, it is MORE beautiful to pack my bag, go out and see the world.

I already fall in love with seeing the world since I worked in Jakarta. I grew up in big city with so many pressure of environment condition, mentality condition and society judgment of being woman in workplace and daily life. Travel is kind of remedy for me to keep my sanity and being optimistic that life is not just that monotonous pace.

Most of conventional Indonesian believes that woman should just stay at home and never travel. Especially travel alone. I broke those concepts because I find out travel helps me to see the differences in other people and to see this world from wider point of view.

I like to travel solo because I feel so much freedom and being independent while open with so many (exciting) possibilities to be happened.

Late 20+, I started to travel. It's always better late than never. I went backpacking to Europe for 25 days in 2012 after saving from my salary in Jakarta and craving for more and more travels afterward. With only 12 days off in a year, it's so difficult for me to be able to see more side of this earth.

Later on, I decided to quit my job in Jakarta 2 years ago. I went solo backpacking around Indonesia for 7 months because I want to know more about my country. I settled down in Ubud, Bali to live with a small dog (which is now already grow so big) I found on the street. After never being abroad for more than 2 years, now my mind is wandering about exploring Europe continent.

Europe has the charm to calling my soul again. I haven't seen much of Europe from the first backpacking I had here. This time, I wanna give about 2 months to see more of it. Meeting another travelers that I met before and still keep in touch with, or just being lost in foreign country and see different culture, listen to different language and eating new kind of food. I really miss that feeling!

With a limited earning I have now in Bali, Europe trip seems like impossible to do. Lots of money needed for a Europe trip, especially for Indonesian (ohh, so poor green passport...). Flight tickets, Visa, Proven Letter that I have millions of rupiah in my bank, Travel Insurance, Accommodations and Food - but I am not giving up. I need your support for my expenses of accomodation and travel within Europe for 1,5 months. If you can host me - that would be lovely too! My travel plan will be on June-end of July 2018.

I am so happy to find this website and think, maybe I should try my luck here and see how it goes, meanwhile I will keep save my money for this year Europe trip I wanna do. This is my first time published to the world to fund my travel. But hey, we will never know until we try, won't we?

I don't want to do tourist. I want to wander the country, meeting people, enjoying local food (perhaps can get cheap tips where to eat and what to eat) and just see Europe landscape, those magnificent landmark, all the clean road and the magical atmosphere between all the castles. I really miss those all beautiful vibes in Europe cities.

I also want to write about my journey, just to inspire other female Indonesian that going out from our country and to see another side of this globe is POSSIBLE to do.

Help me to make my dream of this Europe trip comes true.

PS : Don't worry about the dog, I have kind friends who are willing to take care of her while I am doing this journey.

Lots of love from the braver,
Dea Sihotang
