I have always maintained the belief that there is no better way to learn about and understand a culture than by immersing oneself in it, and there is no better time to understand one’s own culture than the present. Traveling abroad to Israel would allow me the unique and worthwhile opportunity to learn more about a country that I have been so mesmerized by for as long as I can remember, and in a secular setting. As a Jewish woman, I have consistently been taught the religious significance and history of Israel, of the importance the country plays in my spirituality. I have been constantly reminded that it is both my birthright and my duty to return to this land that has offered the Jewish people refuge and freedom. I have learned so much about why the Holy Land is so important to me as a Jew, but so little about why Israel is so significant to me as an academic. This is my opportunity to change that, and with your help, I can!
