My Travel Story

Being born, raised and educated in a small country such as Croatia has limited my international opportunities and ambitious dreams. However, my determination to swim towards the unknown while defying the tide of obstacles has challenged me to always seek beyond Croatian mountains and provoke the limits of Croatian sea which led me to King's College London, the university I am currently studying at. I believe that studying abroad at University of California, would consolidate the aspects of both personal and professional growth needed for pursuing my goal of becoming a rounded and versatile intellectual.

California's diverse climate mirrors the wide range of academic opportunities that UCSB offers. I would have the unique opportunity to channel my interest towards Molecular Biology and Genetics, the major which provides a multi-layered approach to subjects of my primary interest. I believe that being embraced in a new educational system would challenge me to create a clearer roadmap towards my goals as well as help me to develop undivided attention to strive for them. This opportunity would highly encourage me to cultivate new ways of learning and understanding the content. Interacting with students and scholars dealing with diverse subjects would aid in broadening my outside-the-classroom learning, making me better-rounded individual and more prospective student.

Spending a year in the USA for me would also constitute of being involved in different voluntary medical programmes which would provide me with an insight into career opportunities abroad and differences in the healthcare system enriching my academic approach with yet another perspective. Furthermore, experiencing multiculturalism and cross-disciplinary to that extent would inevitably broaden my interests and unfold my hidden passions.

My strong desire to learn in the background of both academic and extracurricular opportunities I would seize, would once again confirm my belief that there are no boundaries to intellectual endeavours. Therefore, one year studying at UCSB, immersed in the variety of teaching styles and California's superlatives, for me would present a unique opportunity to bring my education on a higher level and by knowledge and skills gained, start initiating small steps towards bettering the society not just by my opinion, but with my example.

I would truly appreciate your support. Thank you!

Lorena
