My Travel Story

I'm a late bloomer in the world of academia but finally getting my bearings. Just before the pandemic hit in March 2020 I was thinking about studying abroad in Italy but immediately nixed that idea. I thought my time had come in 2021 to go for it, but just as I was accepted and ready to start the process the program was cancelled due to Covid concerns. Naturally, shortly after that the vaccines became available, and then the boosters.

2022 is my year! I'm ready, I'm excited, and I want to make this happen. I've been intrigued by the idea of getting an Italian minor alongside my English major BA. I believe I can do some fun and interesting things with this combination, especially with the addition of the book publishing courses I have also completed. Translation studies in the publishing industry is the way to go, and entrenching myself in Italian culture and language is something I've wanted to do for a long time in order to strengthen my thread to my Italian heritage that I never had a chance to do before.

Out of the four Italian cities that USAC was hosting programs for, I felt that Viterbo fit me the best. It's a smaller city with a college-town vibe, and to me it sounds like it would be a good alternate to my current hometown of Portland, OR. Just as Portland, Viterbo is also a very walkable city which I look forward to exploring during the three months of my stay there.

  • Campaign Closed!

    Campaign closed!
Just a quick update: I am closing this campaign for a couple reasons. First, I have received donations outside of the website that have helped me cover my costs. If you would like to donate to my fundraiser to cover any other extraneous costs, please refer to the email address in the image shown. You may find me on Paypal, Zelle, or even Facebook Pay. I do not have any other cash apps.

Second, I dislike that this website forces me to use a payment website (Stripe) that charges me a fee every time someone donates. Out of the $75 of donations I have received through here, I have only been given $68.47 of it. This is ridiculous considering Paypal would have not charged me a fee like Stripe does. Therefore, I am cancelling this fundraiser.

However, this website won't let me close the fundraiser officially because there have been donations. I have to let the timer run to the days that I initially selected.

    Thanks for reading!

    Flight of Fancy
With the help of FROSCH student travel, I was able to book round-trip tickets from Portland to Rome for LESS than it would have cost to travel with the USAC group. Mostly this is because there are no direct flights from Portland to Chicago (where the group would meet up, and then fly together to Rome). There were too many lay-overs that would take as long as the flight to Rome itself.

In the end, I opted for the option that allowed me to get to Rome via New York two hours ahead of the group flight. This would ensure that I could participate in the group pick-up that would take us to Viterbo. I changed my fundraising goal from $2,000 to reflect that.

Thanks again to the FROSCH travel agency and their student travel division for helping me make this possible.
