My Travel Story

by: Vickilynn Wilson Start Date: Aug 3, 2017 - End Date: May 3, 2018

Hello all.  I’m Vickilynn and I am on a mission to Rock the Globe @ 50!  On Aug. 12th, in about a week, I’ll hit the BIG 5-0.  More than anything I want to turn the dream I’ve harbored since I was a kid into reality.  And I need your help.

Besides gasps and chuckles, i’m sure some of you have questions.  I’ll briefly attempt to answer The Who, What, Where, When, and Whys.

I am a married mother of 5, all boys, and a Nona (grandma) of 3.  My boys are all grown.  While not quite an empty nester yet, they are all self sufficient and no longer need me on a daily basis.  What free time I have is usually spent reading, gardening, cooking, and taking pictures.  I’m pretty ordinary really.

As cliche’ as it sounds, I want to see the world-at least as much as I can and what better time to start a new life chapter than the half century mark.  While rocking the globe, I don't just want to see the sights.  I want to immerse myself in the countries I'm lucky enough to visit... learning about the culture and getting to know the people,  I want to step out of my comfort zone during this adventure and embrace every aspect of the experience...the good and the bad.  I also intend to chronicle my journey thru a blog and photography for the world to see.

I have no set itinerary.  I’m open to traveling anywhere that is safe to do so.  Obviously there are destinations and adventures on my bucket list like: gazing @ the Northern lights, soaking in the Icelandic hot springs, learning how to make traditional baklava, smashing grapes (Lucy style) in the French countryside, being able to glimpse the floral, fauna, and wildlife on Madagascar, visiting the Battle of the Bulge Memorial to lay a wreath upon my grandfather’s grave.

The plan is to start rocking the globe in late Sept of this year, 2017, and  I’ll be beginning my journey in Copenhagen.  From a financial standpoint, fall is a great time to visit Europe as transportation and lodging are cheaper. .

Why should you contribute?  Besides that warm fuzzy feeling you get from helping make my dream come true, I have a few incentives.

--Everyone, whether you donate or not, will be able to read my blog, watch my videos, and view my pictures as I'm rocking the globe @ 50.

--$10 donation receives a shout on my blog and photo book of 20 pictures from the journey

--$25 donation receives a shout out on a video and a photo book of 20 pictures from the journey

--$50 donation gets you listed on my blog as a contributor and a photo book of 50 pictures of your choice from the journey

--$100 donation gets you listed on my blog as a contributor, a photo book of 50 pictures from the journey as well as a 8x10 matted photo, both of your choice

--$500 donation  gets you listed on my blog as a contributor, lets you choose one of my destinations as well as a special photo book of that destination---you will also receive a photo book of 50 pictures from the journey and either a 11x14 matted photo or canvas print of your choice

I do not intend my dream to be fulfilled solely on your dime.  I work online, which is great. I can continue to do so, part time during the trip as long as I have internet access.  Also I'm not planning on staying in fancy hotels, taking guided tours, or jetting from country to country.  That would defeat the purpose of the experience I want.  I will admit that I'm not going to pass up an opportunity to spend the night in a Scottish castle, turned hotel, overlooking the moors.

I realize how precious time is.  Thank you for giving me some of yours to read my story.

My warmest regards.
