My Travel Story

Hi, my name is Rayven Hoyte, and I am currently a freshman in SUNY Purchase's Playwriting and Screenwriting program. I was recently selected to study Virtual Reality abroad at the iXperience summer tech academy in Cape Town, South Africa! I am beyond excited to embark down this new path in my life, as it will be a whole new adventure and experience that I never thought I would get the opportunity to have. 
Video games and Virtual Reality have been therapeutic for me since I was 7 years old. There were so many strong and empowering characters who taught me that I could do anything that I set my mind to, no matter what the situation. At the time, I didn't really believe I would achieve anything exceptional, because I felt so out of place from everybody else. I was actually picked on because of my differences. I am going to be the first in my family to study abroad and achieve their dreams, rather than work to just take care of yourself and others. I want myself and my family to be free of that cycle. iXperience will provide me with rigourous training to master the Unity 3D engine, Javascript, C#, VR Social Networking, among many other skills and abilities, all of which are practical in the real world, and which has been increasing in need due to the growing industry that is technology, social media, and video games. Through meeting new people who will eventually become my friends, and my expanding network, and being exposed to a wonderful culture, this adventure will give me the tools I need to create new worlds and characters from different cultures with different abilities to show other little boys and girls who feel out of place, different, weird, confused, or unsure of themselves that there is a superhero inside each and every one of them, that is waiting to come out and shine.
