Jamar Whaley

About Me

Jamar Everett Whaley is the first person in his family to graduate from a four-year college. He is graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Media Studies. For three years, Jamar worked as a researcher in a Behavioral Neuroscience laboratory where his work as a lead on a research project studying heroin’s effect on impulsivity lead to a publication in the journal of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Behavior. He was a Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) and Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LS-AMP). He was inducted into the Golden Key International and the Phi Beta Kappa honor societies. He is also a prized Barry M. Goldwater Scholar. Jamar was featured in the QC advertisement campaign “Gateway to the Future,” a mentor in the program Project ExCEL, as well as a student facilitator in the Center for Ethnic, Racial, and Religious Understanding (CERRU). This service has led him to briefly becoming a Teach For America member and after surviving a rare form of thyroid cancer he won a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship award, was featured on the NYC subway system CUNY All-Stars advertisement, in addition to receiving a Fulbright grant to study Internet Addiction Disorder in Beijing, China.
