My Travel Story

My name is Katie Meloy, I am 21 years old and from York. I have ITP.

At the beginning of this year i was diagnosed with a rare blood and auto immune disorder called ITP. It is a conditon where for unknown reasons, your body destroys your own healthy platelets cells. This means that you blood does not clot, so you bruise easy, and when you injure yourself you at risk of serious bleeds. After countless hospital visits and admissions, steroids and chemotherapy treatments, and even chemical meningitis, I am finally in remission!! 

Since being diagnosed I have made it my mission to create awareness about the disorder. I was able to create a ITP Awareness Video which put me in contact with other sufferers all oer the world. I have also attended two British conferences this year, however I would love to have the opportunity to travel to America, for the annual PDSA Convention in Orlando. 

The trip would be absolutely life changing, allowing me to meet more people with my condition and speak to some leading ITP Specialists. It is a once in a life time opportiunity for me, and I would love to go while I am still in remission! There is no cure for ITP. ITP it something I will live with for the rest of my life, so rather then fighting it, i have chosen to embrace it, and create it into a positive journey where ever I can.
