My Travel Story

by: Taylor Chelo Start Date: Oct 14, 2015 - End Date: Jan 1, 2016
To My Incredible Family & Friends: Thank you all so much for encouraging me to achieve all of my goals and to discover and pursue my purpose in this life. I have overcome two open-heart surgeries, I got accepted into my dream high school and university, I am enrolled in the Masters Program for Elementary Education at Quinnipiac, and, most importantly, I am the happiest I have ever been. I could not have done it without all of your love, prayers, and support. God has blessed me with a beautiful life and even more beautiful people, and I cannot thank you enough for being the biggest reasons behind my smile.

This all being said, there is one more goal on my vision board that I have always dreamed of doing that I know I can count on you guys to help me achieve: Studying Abroad in Perugia, Italy.

If you would like to support me in my travels to study abroad in Perugia, Italy this Spring, please visit the link below. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to your generosity, I will be able to achieve the following four goals:

*Broaden my Experience as an Aspiring Educator in the Global Community.
It has been my dream and goal to make a difference in children’s lives by giving them the education they deserve, both within and beyond the borders of America. I will learn about diverse learning styles and encourage students to be responsible citizens themselves while teaching in international school systems.

*Learn Literature from a Different Cultural Lens.
One of the most influential aspects of the English major is its universality; literary studies are cultivated and harvested from a vast array of cultures. I am eager to appreciate the worldliness of Literature through traditions of another culture unique to America’s.

*Enhance my Diversity Awareness & Social Intelligence.
One must understand and respect the similarities and differences between international communities while studying abroad. Recognizing and appreciating the uniqueness of individuals of these communities is imperative in strengthening my social intelligence.

*Develop Responsible Citizenship
As an American citizen, it is my civil duty to serve as a positive representation of what it means to be a proud member of my national community, especially by respecting the values of my country and those of other countries.

Ever since my week-long mission trip in Montego Bay, Jamaica during my junior year of high school, I have become more eager to travel to countries outside of my home country in order to educate myself on diverse cultures, to step out of my comfort zone and mature as both a student and an individual, and, most importantly, to learn more about my place and purpose in the international community. Given my English Major and my enrollment in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Elementary Education Program, I can see myself gaining a new perspective on the importance of education through a different culture and potentially teaching English as a second language to children in other countries. Taking this opportunity during my time at Quinnipiac would allow me to broaden my horizons as I pursue my dream occupation as an educator. This all being said, I will be traveling to Perugia, Italy this Spring Semester to be educated at the Umbra Institute!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much for giving me the world and more. I love you all so much!
