My Travel Story

Hello! First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my page as it is very much appreciated.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and my trip.
My name is Elizabeth and I am a grade 4 teacher from Canada. This year, my class and I have decided to sponsor an elephant currently living in an elephant sanctuary in Petchiburi, Thailand (160km south of Bangkok). I have been doing so much research with my students about the mistreatment of elephants, in both the logging and tourism industries, that I have decided to volunteer for 2 weeks at the sanctuary, where I will be able to meet and work with our sponsored elephant!
Some of the work that I will be doing will include: working hands-on with the elephants, washing them, feeding them, going out to collect food for them, and cleaning their enclosures. I want to work ethically with elephants, learn more about them and the problems they face being domesticated, as well as become part of something that is literally bigger than myself.
I chose to volunteer with the Wildlife Friends Foundation in Thailand because it is the first chain free elephant refuge in all of Asia. They truly care for the well-being of the animals that they have rescued.
I love elephants. They seem like such gentle, soulful, innocent creatures, and I am beyond excited to be going to Thailand to work with them for 2 weeks (and my students are excited too!). I want to show my students that the actions we take can actually change the world.
I would be so grateful for any donations and contributions to my trip.
Cheers!
