Hello, and thanks for stopping by!

My name is Melinda, and I am currently studying for my BSc in Psychology at the University of York, England. I am pleased to have been offered a place on the SLV (Student and Graduate Placements Abroad) Mental Health Program in 2017. SLV is an organization which have been providing Mental health placements in Sri Lanka for students since 2012, and 2016 is their pilot year for expanding their program to Indonesia. July 2017 I will be travelling to Bali, in Indonesia for 4 weeks where I will gain hands on experience relevant to my degree. During my time there I will be working in a psychiatric facility, teach English in the local community, as well as working with individuals with special needs. I will not just gain valuable work and life experience that will be beneficial for my future career and self-development, but I will also get the privilege of living with a Balinese family and learn about their culture.

I chose to apply to this project because I have a great passion for my degree and a desire to learn about and help people. This project provided all of these amazing opportunities and promises many challenges that I am excited to face.

I am very grateful to have been offered this opportunity, but unfortunately like all things in life it doesn’t come free. As a student living on a tight budget, I am aiming to raise as much as possible through getting involved in fundraising activities. Any donation you can spare would be very much appreciated as it will give me the opportunity to be a part of this amazing project! And again, thank you for taking the time to read this!
