My Travel Story

by: Louise Lynn Start Date: Jul 1, 2019 - End Date: Jun 30, 2020
Hi everyone! My names Louise. I’m a 16 year old second level student hoping to pursue medicine!!  I’m from the Republic of Ireland. Thanks for taking time to read about my campaign.

What is Projects Abroad?
Projects Abroad provides this Internship to teenagers between the ages of 15-18. This will be a month long internship  and I will hopefully, with your help, be starting on the 30th of June 2020.

What are the aims of this project??
The aim of this project in particular is to provide me, given the opportunity, with an insight into the medical field. By doing so, I hope it will give me a deeper understanding of medical practices in a developing country.
Along with other students my own age, I will observe the work of qualified doctors as they treat patients in a hospital setting. I will get a first hand glimpse at what work I could do in medicine. Rotating through various hospitals and different departments will also help build my medical knowledge. This can range from general medicine and eye specialisms, to family planning and physiotherapy.

What will I be doing there?
I will get the chance to be placed in five different health care centres, including an oncology hospital, abortion and family planning clinic, general hospital, eye hospital and a community hospital. In each of these places I will get the oppurtunity to witness miracles in medicine. C-sections, natural births, neurosurgery, doctor and patient consultations and cataract operations to name but a few.

About me
I have a part-time job currently and unfortunately this will not be enough to fund this trip in time. I am funding this completely on my own and medicine is something I would like to pursue. Unfortunately experiences like this can only be experienced abroad . I really enjoy helping people and feel this will be a fantastic learning curve and will give me brilliant insight into what it would be like in the medical field.
