My Travel Story
My name is Shane Armstrong, and I hail originally from South Texas. However, due to my parents' work-related relocations, our family journeyed first to Virginia and then to Florida. Each move brought its own set of challenges, but none as impactful as the upheaval caused by the pandemic.
Like many students across the country, my academic trajectory was significantly disrupted. Adjusting to new environments, navigating through more academically rigorous curriculums, and facing the sudden shift to online learning took its toll on my grades. Despite my best efforts, I found myself struggling to keep up.
But amidst these challenges, there were moments of triumph. I poured my heart and soul into extracurricular activities, excelling in football and wrestling. Also, once enrolled in school in Florida, my grades improved. While my athletic achievements caught the eye of college coaches, my grades dictated a different path. Thus, I humbly accepted a spot on the Highland Community College football team in Highland, Kansas, opting for the junior college route to pursue my dreams. Now enrolled in college, I'm proud to say that I've maintained a GPA of 3.7 and earned a starting position on the defense as a true freshman thanks to relentless dedication and hard work.
Today, I find myself blessed with the opportunity to continue my education and athletic pursuits, albeit with some financial hurdles. While I do receive some financial aid, it falls short of covering all the expenses, especially when it comes to the significant distances separating me from my beloved family.
My aging grandparents and parents reside back in Florida and Texas, and the longing to be with them grows with each passing day. However, the financial strain makes it challenging to travel home as frequently as we would like. That's why I'm turning to you for assistance.
