Pamela Will Prevail
My Travel Story
Your momma is preparing for a knee replacement, for which you will be heading down south to help her during her rehabilitation for a few weeks. You want to leave this week, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to be happening. Things just are not coming together for you the way you had hoped they would. You’re still working the kinks out on how you’re going to get there.
You slide the little dot over on your cell phone screen to answer. “Momma?” you say with a crackling voice “what is it?”. On the other end of the line your momma is crying. “He’s gonna kill me! You gotta get me out of here” you hear your momma say between sobs. Your heart breaks. You know who she’s talking about. Her husband of ten years plus. They are at it again. This is not something that you need added to your plate at this time, but you take it on, like any good daughter would do.
You sit up in bed and clear your throat, “Momma, calm down now, calm down. Tell me what happened” putting your slippers on so you can walk out to the kitchen and get some water, with one hand you wipe your eyes while the other holds the phone to your ear. You put your robe on and head to the kitchen while you listen to your momma’s cries about how David, her husband, and her were arguing about her things being all over the house and how he has threatened, once again, to end her life. You know you’ve got to get her out of there. But you don’t know where to start. By the time you get to Georgia she will have had her knee replacement and not be able to do much for herself. You had been planning on staying at her and David’s house while you help her recouperate, but it’s looking like that may not be possible now.
You calm your momma’s worries over the phone telling her that everthing will be okay. Things have a way of working themselves out and once you get there, you’ll be able to get a better handle on things and how to help her. Once you hang up the phone you just know that you won’t be able to sleep any longer, your mind is so full of jumbled up thoughts and worry. You just have to figure out how you’re going to get to Georgia, and fast.
FAST FORWARD:
This is what happened to my friend and the chain of events that lead us to where we are today. After that phone call with her momma, my friend Angela called me and told me what was going on. I have been helping others with an assortment of different things and getting assistance set up, for many years now. I recently moved back to North Dakota to assist my ex-husband and brother with medical needs and social programs and applications etc. I assured Angela that we would get her momma the help that was needed. And I also told her that if needed I would bring her home to Georgia to help her mother.
Angela got the time off from work, and we took what money we had and headed out for Georgia. We have been here a week now. Pamela is about to get out of the hospital but we still have no place for her to go, other than back home to David’s.
Angela and I brought a tent to stay in while we are here. We need funding for a few different things. 1. to get Pamela into a place of her own, maybe the first couple months' rent 2. to get proper assistive devices to assist with Pamela’s rehabilitation 3. to set up proper rehab services 4. Pamela’s medications and last but not least, we need to get home so would need 5. gas money.
This is the first time I have ever had to turn to a funding platform for any of my assistance that I provide others. I would like to thank you in advance for helping to make this a successful trip for us. We appreciate you.
