My Travel Story

by: Samantha Tashquinth Start Date: Nov 15, 2022 - End Date: Dec 11, 2022
S-Ke:g Tash (Good Day), Samantha Tashquinth of the Gila River Indian Community, Akimel O’odham (River People). I am an Akimel O'odham Runner for my community of almost 5 years. My husband Tyler Tashquinth a beginning runner this year of the Tohono O’odham Nation. We have two beautiful daughters, Haley;4 and Kailani Enos;2. As of March 2016 I am 6 years sober, and as of December 2017 Tyler is 5 years sober. We teach our girls how important it is stay active, healthy, and the teachings to keeping our traditions alive. My running lifestyle began in, 2018. Running has taught me the knowledge of healing, not for just myself, also for my people. Today, I run as a form of medicine. I believe as an Akimel O'odham Runner, I sacrifice my body for healing and prayer. I pray for my Daughters, my Family, my Community, MMIP, Sobriety and Myself! I have physically gained the knowledge of our Himdag (way of life), the way our ancestors use to run this land as a form of prayer. Tyler and I have had the honor to attended many runs, community fun runs, multiple Half-Marathons. Respectfully, I have been asked to attend many Prayer Runs. For not only my community, also our sister tribes and the surrounding tribes. I say with honor that the prayer runs are some of the hardest runs I have ever endured, we can cover to 100* miles within days. My most recent run was the Lake Powell Half-Marathon as a part of the Native Women Running (NWR) Team, a Non-Profit organization for Missing Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW), as a team of 10 women we had placed 2nd overall. It has been an honor to have been selected to run with this Team. Tyler and I have what it takes physically, mentally and spiritually to take on OUR very First Marathon a total of (26.2 miles) at the 50th Anniversary in Hawaii for the Honolulu Marathon on Sunday-December 11, 2022. We respectfully ask at this time for your financial support. Every $1 counts in support for our trip! We thank you for all your support! It is appreciated beyond words! Thank you!!!!! Respectfully The Tashquinth Family!!!!
