Giving who I am to the Big 5
My Travel Story
I grew up in Bogotá, which is the capital of Colombia. It's a big city so the only contact I had with nature was through television after school. My favorite channel was Animal Planet and I used to dream of being surrounded by large mammals like elephants and rhinos, and of course, seeing the incredible savannahs and jungles of Africa; Now by doing this project that dream will come true.
I want to help with collaborative wildlife management in the Phinda reserve in South Africa through environmental volunteering.
Phinda is one of the reserves with the best conservation results in terms of conserving black rhino and cheetah populations. Furthermore, I want to use this experience and combine it with my academic knowledge and scientific skills to develop a research thesis that aims to contribute to the long-term conservation of Africa's Big 5, its ecosystem and its local communities.
I really want to contribute with my passion for nature and from my Latin American culture to other countries with little economic support such as Africa, but with immense natural and cultural richness. Furthermore, it will be the beginning of a professional career that I hope is aimed at achieving a sustainable and better planet for all.
