My Travel Story

by: Diana Mîndroc Start Date: Feb 8, 2022 - End Date: Nov 7, 2022
I am currently working as a PhD Student at the Center for Computational and Theoretical Biology at the Würzburg University, in the Image Analysis area. I am trying to change my field of research from biomedical engineering towards conservation and this experience would definitely give me a kick-start in the right direction. I am also a budding photographer, hoping to be able to do nature photojournalism at some point in the future, and this experience would contribute to this as well. I am working in research for 5 years and I think I gathered already some experience, which combined with my leadership skills that I acquired through volunteering in different organisations and with my photography skills can contribute to a fact-based and creative storytelling of ocean conservation. I chose this destination because I found the experience which is offered by the Ocenearium in Lisbon while taking my brother to the Ocenearium. I was always passionate about nature in general and I love exploring and photographing it. 3 years ago, my best friend introduced me to scuba diving, which opened a whole new world for me as it would for anyone who tries it and I would like to be able to research it, protect it and tell about it to others. My partner and I are dreaming about opening one day a diving research center where we can maybe make it even easier for people to discover the beauty of the oceans and also contribute to protect it through experiences like this one. I consider that if we understand something, then we can love it and protecting, therefore I think this type of experiences are so important. By taking part in one now, I would like to learn the necessary skills that I could potentially use in the future to organize and provide similar activities to others.
