My Travel Story
My (Paul's) mother died after losing her fight with vascular dementia on January 8th, 2023. The pain from watching the person I loved most in this life lose herself was immeasurable.
After she died, I had time to reflect on her and on what my future held as well. She was the 6th person in our bloodline to get dementia, and eventually die from it over the last 30 years. It's a terrible ordeal to lose the most important person ever in your life, and then to see your likely future as well.
As I reflected upon my mother, I happened to think about some of my fondest memories with my mom. Traveling put a huge smile on my face. She was always happiest when she was out experiencing something amazing in the world. I was blessed as a child to join her on some of those adventures.
I also came to the realization that I had been miserable for far too long. Plenty of others can relate. You work your butt off performing any work that you can do to just barely keep the roof over your head, the lights on, and food in your belly. I realized that I had not been living, I'd been existing and surviving. Major difference.
I spent months after her death researching travel. What I discovered was that the more I researched the subject, the more I felt a burning desire flooding out of me. Like the ultimate light bulb went off in my head. I felt excited and awakened and alive! For the first time in years, I felt a true calling, a true purpose.
So after months of research, and after getting passed the overwhelming fear, I took the small inheritance left by my mother, and decided that I was done being miserable, done being held back by fear and by just playing it safe. It was time to build a new life. One that would bring all the joy, fulfillment, and purpose that I was seeking.
Brooke and I have been living this life now for 9 months, and regardless of setbacks or struggles, we wouldn't choose to live any other way. It's the most amazing life and amazing world. And we've made it our mission to show anyone and everyone who will listen, that this life is not only feasible, but it's worth everything.
We gave up everything back home. All that we own in life fits in our 2 backpacks. There is nothing else or anywhere else at this point. We have proven to this point that you don't need much in the way of funds to live the most amazingly rich life. We've averaged between $1500-$2000/month combined in TOTAL to live this way. The number only fluctuates depending on the region and it also includes all travel costs incurred as well.
The goal is simple. Live this life until we just want to settle down somewhere. Which neither one of us envision happening for a LONG, LONG time. We will continue to show everyone this wonderful world, and all that it has to offer. We want to help others who want to give up the frills for truly living.
Since my mother's death, and then starting this life, we have a creed that we live by every single day:
Life is a one time only gift.
Time is your most precious resource in this gift of life.
Neither are guaranteed a tomorrow.
We are working literally every single day since April 18th, 2024. No days off ever. When you do something that you love, you'll never work a day in your life. We have recently opened a Shopify store to sell my video editing services as well as the ever growing collection of 4k Travel Photos. We are still working and growing our YouTube channel to coincide with this.
We just need help in sustaining ourselves while we continue to grow our businesses.
