From the classroom to the World: My Path to Peru!
My Travel Story
My name is Kortney Jones, and I am a Psychology student driven by a passion for understanding people, promoting mental health, and creating real change in the lives of others. This spring, I have been given an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Peru, where I’ll explore global perspectives on psychology, poverty, and human resilience.
While in Peru, I will be volunteering with local organizations that support children and families — many of whom face poverty, loss, and limited access to care. My goal is to bring compassion, support, and a willingness to listen. Whether it’s tutoring children, helping caregivers, or simply offering a kind presence, I’ll be contributing to a community that gives so much despite having so little. I also plan to bring these lessons home, sharing new insights and stories to inspire others in my local community.
Peru is a country rich in culture, resilience, and beauty. Yet, it’s also home to communities deeply affected by poverty and limited access to mental health resources. This contrast makes Peru the perfect place to study how psychological well-being is influenced by social conditions — and how hope thrives even in hardship. I’m eager to learn from Peru’s people, history, and holistic approaches to healing that blend culture, spirituality, and community support.
Your support turns my dream into a reality and that reality will touch countless lives. Together, we can build understanding, one heart, one story, one journey at a time.
