My Travel Story

I am a 19 year old student from Florida with unfathomable motivation and drive to succeed, and a love for animals, music, volunteering, and learning.  As shown in the pictures above, I am a dedicated equestrian and proud owner of my Oldenburg hores "Charlie".  I am a Psychology-Photography major, and plan to pursue my Doctorate in Forensic Psychology.  I currently work for St. Petersburg College as a receptionist, I work at my stable as a barn hand, and I tutor kids in the Spanish language on the side for about 10 hours a week.  
Though I am saving my money for an Abroad trip, I can not do it on my own.  I am paying for my own education as well as for my horse (who is one VERY expensive little animal!).  My mother passed away from Cancer when I was a child, and my father was an abusive parent, from whom's home I have been estranged.  I live with my loving grandparents who do their best to support me, but both work very hard to simply pay the bills (often with my assistance).  
Given my background story, I am passionate not only about furthering my education, but about helping people.  I am researching not only study abroad/internship trips, but volunteer trips as well.  There is a Women Empowerment volunteer program in Kenya that sounds like a project in which I, a strong, empowered woman, could make a difference.  I know from my background that abuse and sexism should never be tolerated, though it often is in the patriarchal Nepal.  If I could have the opportunity to help even one woman in such a situation, my trip would be worth every penny.
