My Travel Story

by: Jessica Dalrymple Start Date: Oct 9, 2016 - End Date: Jan 1, 2017
Hurrican Matthew destroyed the village of LaColine, D'Aquin, where my school is located. Many families' homes were flooded, rooves blown away or caved in, and livestock killed. There is a severe food shortage due to the immense amount of crops and livestock that was destroyed in the storm. The area is at high risk for cholera, among many other diseases spread through dirty water.

The Board of Directors for Jesus is the Way Mission for Haiti is planning a trip back to our village in order to see our loved ones and help rebuild and rehibilitate after the destruction. I miss all of these people and cannot wait to spend time with them again, remind them of the love and support they have outside of Haiti. This trip will also allow us a chance to reevaluate our building plans for Phase 2. Our school still stands (praise God!), however our secondary building that was used as classrooms, a community center and a church was destroyed in the hurricane. It is important for us to push forward on our mission, complete the rest of our building and ensure these deserving children receive the best education possible.

As a university student, this trip is out of my budget. I would sincerely appreciate any help possible to help me get back to Haiti, my second home and the place that has my heart. Thank you so much!
