My Travel Story

by: Jordan Brown Start Date: Jan 2, 2020 - End Date: Apr 30, 2020
I am determined to study abroad to become a better writer, artist, and person. I believe that studying abroad opens one up to the world, allowing them to see life differently. Personally, studying abroad in Europe would mean everything to my career as I think gaining a Europeon perspective of my field, art and culture, would be very beneficial to my process and ideas. In Europe, art seems to hold such an importance, one in which I do not come across much where I'm from. That being said, having the ability to view remarkable works of art and architecture while having the opportunity to interact with these romantic and beautiful cultures would supply me with the outside knowledge of my career path needed to make informed and open-minded decisions. Thus, adding to my ability to think outside of the box and from another culture's perspective, based on what I learn while abroad.
I think the world is a wide and beautiful place full of people and things that are meant to be experienced and beholded. Even things seeming unordinary, to me, are worth looking at and I believe studying abroad would be the best chance I have at understanding the world and my place in it, better than I have been able to so far. My main goal in my field would be to expose how human we really are - that all of us are the same in so many ways and that we all want the same things when it comes down to it.  Europe is my first stepping stone into the world of travelling in order to tell this story. A story of people being people. One I hope to use to change how people view one another and to somehow invoke a sense of compassion between humans. Therefore, having the ability to document what I see in France, England, and the Netherlands would be a step in the direction of my overall goal. In the end, I hope to have gained a sense of how truly important it is to expand ourselves and share our mind's with others. I have confidence that by the time I return to the US, I will be even more prepared to continue in the direction I am going but, this time, with new ideas, new faces, fresh in my mind, and most importantly a new sense of urgency to interact with people and give them a space to share their story through future projects.
