My Travel Story

by: Tabitha Smith Start Date: May 29, 2025 - End Date: Oct 2, 2025

We're a passionate homeschool family of six with a big dream: to take our kids on the ultimate educational adventure: a once-in-a-lifetime field trip to Washington, DC this fall! As homeschoolers, we don’t have access to traditional school-funded trips, but we believe learning should go far beyond the walls of our home. What better classroom than the nation’s capital itself? Imagine our children standing where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, exploring the Smithsonian Museums, seeing the Constitution in person, and walking through the halls of Congress where history is still being made. This isn’t just a vacation, it’s an immersive, hands-on experience that will ignite a lifelong love of history, civic responsibility, and national pride! We’ve been studying American history, government, and civics all year. Now, we want to make it real. Our planned itinerary includes: *The U.S. Capitol & White House
*National Archives (to see the Constitution & Declaration of Independence)
*Smithsonian Museums (Air & Space, Natural History, American History)
*Lincoln Memorial, MLK Jr. Memorial, and the Washington Monument
*Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
*And much more!
Our family is doing everything we can to make this dream happen — cutting costs, saving every extra dollar, and planning a road trip to keep travel expenses down. But with rising prices, even the most budget-friendly trip for a family of six adds up quickly. That’s where we humbly ask for your help. We’re seeking to raise $5,000 to cover:
* Gas and lodging for the 2-week round-trip drive
* Affordable meals for our family
* Admission fees and educational tour costs
* Parking, tolls, and other travel expenses
Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to making this journey a reality. Even $5-$10 helps fill our gas tank or cover a museum tour for one child. If you can’t donate, you can still help by sharing our story with friends, family, or fellow homeschool supporters. With your support, our children won’t just read about American history, they’ll walk through it! They’ll experience the power of democracy up close and carry those lessons with them for the rest of their lives.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping make this unforgettable educational journey possible. We promise to share photos, updates, and the lessons we learn along the way.
Humble Thanks,
The Smith Family
