My Travel Story

Dear Family and Friends,

I write to you today asking you for your generosity. In simpler terms, your donations, and more importantly your thoughts and prayers.

This Summer I will be traveling to India for four months. A country rife with crippling poverty. A place where no city nor back-country is untouched by the stain of devastating scarcity. Where the magnitude of those in need finds little relief. A country whose people I am called to help. The poverty in India is much different than here in the United States. It is more widespread, infectious, and untameable than what we experience in this country. Its severity cannot be overstated.

I will be going to Kolkata, where Mother Teresa first started her mission, and working alongside her Sisters, the Missionaries of Charity to bring love and aid to the poorest of the poor. A city with many sorrowful hearts needing to be cared for and acknowledged. Specifically, I will be working in homes for dying children and destitutes, mentally and physically challenged children, as well as, going throughout the slums of Kolkata tending to the needy. Whether that be giving out food, clothing, water, or providing basic first aid. There are many who need help being fed, clothed, bathed, or bandaged, and I will be one of many there to help them.

I do not know what draws me to India. I do not know of all that I will be asked to give, but I am willing to give everything I can to those in the most desperate need. I am passionate and driven and my hearts pours out for those who are suffering more than my imagination could even articulate. I am going to India in hopes that I can bring some type of comfort, happiness, or love to those whom the rest of society often tries to forget.

This yearning to help others is what drives my career choice, and my decision to go to India. Not only will you be aiding me in helping others in India, but you will be giving me the opportunity to grow as an individual and a nurse. Graciously gifting me with a more cultured understanding of the pain of the human heart obtained through my experiences with those suffering in India.

I am hoping to raise $6,000. This covers, everything; the round-trip plane ticket, visa, passport, vaccinations, food, and living expenses. Furthermore, I am hoping to have enough extra to purchase basic medical supplies, such as, gauze, bandages, iodine, alcohol, etc., clothing, food, and clean water for the Missionaries of Charity to continue to administer to the poor.

Mother Teresa once said, “If the Missionaries of Charity have brought joy to one unhappy home… don’t you think it would be worth while offering everything, for just that one…” I hope that at the very least I can impact just that one.

I am asking you to embark on this journey with me. Whether that be through your monetary support or your prayers. Anything that you can give will be greatly welcomed!

Please pray for me and for the poor!

As I spend my time in India, I would like to document my experience. Lately I have been into making little adventure edits. My "movie" would consist of my everyday life, emotions, and everything inbetween. The raw material for being in another country!

If you have any questions or would like to follow along with me and receive weekly emails with updates and news, please feel free to message me with any questions! Lastly, please share this post to spread to word! Thank you !!!

God Bless! (:
