I'm a 15 year old teen living in Queens, New York, and I recently received the opportunity to go on a 9 day excursion to Spain and Portugal with my high school! Being a determined and hard working student and athlete that's involved in her community both at home and in school I know this trip will provide me with a unique and benefitial experience! By visiting Madrid, Seville, and Lisbon I will have the chance to immerse myself in a new culture and try new things! Having a cultural understanding is important for developing an appreciation for those different from us and helps give us a global perspective. I will be able to practice important life skills such as independence and responsibility when my classmates and I have time to explore the plazas on our own, and flexibility when there's a change in plans. Additionally, I'll have the chance to practice my Spanish language skills outside of the classroom. This trip will also open doors for me in my future with new life skills for both college and the workplace and give me a taste of what going to college away from home or working abroad might be like! I have yet to ever leave the United States, and I believe that there are some experiences that you can only experience from traveling! I think this is a unique opportunity and learning experience that will benefit me greatly!
