My Travel Story

Hi! My name is Annah Rivera and I am a 17 year old senior in Los Angeles, California. I am graduating this June and before I go off to college I would love to be part of this life changing journey with Global Leadership Adventures. My parents would love for me to go on this trip, but unfortunately we can't pay for it on our own. I want to make an impact on others, experience another part of the world we live in, and make the most of the life that I've been blessed with.  For the past few months, I have been dreaming about going on a service trip to Bali with GLA (Global Leadership Adventure) Teens. It’s somewhat like the Peace Corps, but for people under 18.  Unfortunately my parents are unable to help with this trip, so I am trying to find ways to do it myself.                                                                                

The trip I want to go on will be centered on medical health and wellness. Since I have decided to pursue a career in the medical field when I go to college in the fall, I thought this would be an amazing introduction into my adult life and my field of interest. I am beyond excited for all that I will learn in the months leading up to the trip, during the trip, and after I return home. I believe God is going to “do a good work in me” as a result of this incredible opportunity.  

During my trip we will spend most of our time focused on assisting health professionals, NGOs and community leaders at a primary care health clinic in a local village. We will observe how care is delivered, and depending on the situation at hand, jump in to help respond to needs. I will also help design and deliver a health education workshop for local youth in the second half of the program. Shadowing local leaders, I will be immersed in diverse healthcare settings—Western pop-up clinics, a traditional jungle healer’s practice, and health workshops with children. I will learn about the complexity of building and sustaining a public healthcare system and even visit a natural birth clinic! I am hopeful and excited at the possibility to be a part of this team! As I prepare for the trip, I need your prayers for safety and I want to humbly ask you to consider supporting me financially. 

This trip would be a dream come true! I can't even express my excitement at the thought of learning something I love in a completely different place and helping others in the process. 
I want to thank you all in advance for your time and donations to my volunteer and service trip and I cannot wait to show you all the impact it will have on me and the people of Bali.
