My Travel Story

by: Jovan Pesovic Start Date: Feb 16, 2017 - End Date: Jun 15, 2017
I am a PhD student of molecular biology in Belgrade, Serbia. The main focus of my research is genetic background of myotonic dystrophy, the most common form of muscular dystrophy in adults. My work is just a part of research that is being carried out all over the world with the purpose of understanding the mechanism of the disease and eventually finding the appropriate therapy. In that regard, the role of international meetings gathering experts in the field is crucial for exchanging ideas and new discoveries. One of the most important events regarding myotonic dystrophy this year, the 11th meeting of the International Myotonic Dystrophy Consortium (IDMC-11) will be held in San Francisco, CA, from September 5-9, 2017. This meeting will bring together scientists, clinicians, associations and patients themselves to accelerate clinical and fundamental myotonic dystrophy research. As a young scientist from a small country, I would like to attend this meeting with some new findings from my research. However, the overall costs of the trip (mainly travel costs and registration fee) exceed my budget which is not nearly enough to cover such a long distance travel. I would really appreciate if you could help me with small contributions that would make this trip possible. Thank you so much in advance!
