My Travel Story

by: Hannah Contreras Start Date: Apr 25, 2016 - End Date: Jun 13, 2016
Hello everyone! First off, thank you for taking the time to read this description, and for even considering donating to my study abroad trip this summer.  Secondly, I want to give you all some information about what exactly I will be doing in the Czech Republic, and how immensely your donations will help me. The program through which I will be studying abroad is CIEE – The Council on International Educational Exchange. My official program dates are June 20th – July 18th and I will be living in the capital city of Czech – Prague. While abroad I will be taking classes studying modern Czech art from faculty at Charles University, the oldest University in Central Europe! In class I will specifically be learning about Czech art in it’s cultural and historical context. Perhaps one of the experiences I am most excited for, is the opportunity my studies will give me to see the artwork in person at museums and galleries in Prague.  Another incredible opportunity provided by CIEE is their intercultural comparative experiences. What this means is that while most of my time abroad will be spent studying in the Czech Republic, I will also get to spend 3 days studying in BUDAPEST, HUNGARY! I cannot wait!

Studying abroad is an experience I only ever dreamed of, and did not think would ever be possible due to financial restraints. With the support of my family, I am taking a leap of faith and am embarking on this journey whilst hoping the details fall into place. Seeing the world and expanding my cultural lens are values close to my heart, and I want to thank each of you for reading this, and for your consideration to donate to my education abroad. The bill that comes with studying abroad is large and while my Diversity Excellence Scholarship at the University of Oregon will apply to a small portion of the total cost, I am left with a considerable amount to fundraise before I leave. Some of the major costs associated include my international airfare, food and personal expenses while abroad, and the tuition and program fees. In this online fundraising forum I have also added additional, more detailed information regarding the expenses. I have provided the online link to the Summer Central European study abroad program page on the CIEE website, where you can find supplementary information regarding my studies and the costs associated.

I cannot say enough how thankful and humbled I am to have so much support from my family and friends in making this once in a lifetime experience a possibility! Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you may have about my studies and travels, and thank you all again for reading and donating to my international education.

Praha zde i přijít <3 (Prague, here I come.)

Sincerely, Hannah

    The Time Has Nearly Come!
Hello and thank you dearly for reading my final update! I am writing with indescribable excitement and eagerness because in 9 days I will be leaving for Prague, yay! I want to extend the world's largest hug to everyone who has supported me in my international endeavor by sharing my campaign posts and graciously donating funds to make it all possible. I am in somewhat of disbelief that I get to spend a month in Europe studying, and I truly must thank my family and friends for it all. This campaign has been a smashing success in collecting the funds necessary for me to pay for my once in a lifetime experience, and it will be live for just 3 more days! If you have the time and would, please share my final update <3 Thankfully yours, Hannah

    T-3O DAYS!
Dobrý den (hello)! Guess what? I will be boarding my plane to Prague in exactly 30 days! My adventure is becoming more and more real as I iron out the details and read the itineraries I have been provided. I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported my study abroad journey through well wishes, sharing the campaign, and by graciously donating. I feel so blessed to have this surplus of support within my community, family, and friends. This week was incredibly special because my Uncle Jim and Aunt Janice, and friends Edwin and Chanda and their sons, all surprised me with monetary donations and big hugs to fund my studies abroad. To say thank you does not even come close to expressing my appreciation and thankfulness. By the way, learning a few words and short phrases in Czech has been a slow but steady process, and I wanted to share this one with you all because of it’s relevance to my life. BLAHOSLAVENÍ - BLESSED ♥ Cheers, H
