My Travel Story

Hello, my name is Jean Pierre Ricardo, and I am 17 year old boy from Haiti. Life has been incredibly difficult for me and my younger sister ever since we lost both of our parents when I was just 11 years old. The pain of losing them was unbearable, but what made it even harder was knowing that we were suddenly alone, with no one to turn to except our aging grandmother. She did everything she could to help us survive, but life in Haiti has never been easy.

Despite the hardships, my grandmother managed to help me finish high school. Some days, we barely had enough food to eat, and many nights, I studied by candlelight because we couldn’t afford electricity. I worked odd jobs, sometimes going to sleep hungry just to make sure my little sister had something to eat. But I never gave up because I believed education was my only way out.

I have always dreamed of becoming a computer scientist and biomedical engineer, hoping to use technology to solve medical challenges and help those in need. Recently, I was awarded a scholarship to study Biomedical Engineering at NEW AMERICAN UNIVERSITY, Arizona (NAMU)! This is a dream come true, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could change my life forever. But there is one heartbreaking obstacle, I have no money to sponsor my travels to the United States.

Even though my scholarship covers my tuition, I still need financial support to cover my flight visa,essential costs and some other travel expenses. My grandmother, who has struggled just to keep a roof over our heads, simply cannot afford to help me. Without this support, I will be forced to give up on my education and my dreams, and I fear I may never get another chance like this.
